Tourism in Folegandros
The group of islands known as the Cyclades are home to some of the most famous islands in all of Greece. Santorini, Syros, Mykonos and Paros all belong to this unique island formation, and they attract huge numbers of visitors each year from all over the world.

One of the lesser known islands in the Cyclades is that of Folegandros, which is a small but very beautiful and impressive island. It is the perfect destination to head to if you want to avoid the crowds of some of the other more popular islands.

The capital town Folegandros is actually a formation of two settlements. In Greek, the word "Kastro" means "castle or fortress", and this is exactly what you will see when you pay a visit to the old part of the capital town of Chora.

This wonderful Venetian castle was originally built as a defensive system for the island to protect it from pirate attacks. The castle was built on the edge of a very steep cliff, about 200 meters above sea level. The views from here are amazing and well worth experiencing.

The entire old part of the town is a great place to walk around and will give you a fascinating insight into the historic past of the island. There are other places of interest that are well worth seeing if you have the chance.

Folegandros is a superb Greek island destination and makes a great destination for your relaxing and rewarding trips in Greece. With frequent ferry services to Athens and other islands in the Cyclades, it is an island that every visitor to Greece should try to see and enjoy.
